Dedication
(To
the memory of my spiritual father the late Elder George Kwasi Amponsah)
ELDER
GEORGE KWASI AMPONSAH - A BRIEF ACCOUNT OF HIS CHRISTIAN LIFE
God
made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the
righteousness of God.
(1 Corinthians 5:21)
He was known to many as Elder George Kwasi
Amponsah. But for me, he was my Dad and a man who lived for the gospel. To him,
every believer is to live for the gospel and he made sure all he did helped in
the propagation of the good news of our Lord Jesus Christ. Being a preacher
like him, he often urged me to incorporate the Gospel in all sermons I preached
at any given opportunity. His Christian life revolved around the gospel and
nothing else. It was therefore not surprising to me that he abandoned a planned
70th birthday party organized by his children and requested we
support him organize an evangelistic crusade in his hometown, Kurofa, which we
did.
Dada was a man of prayer and the word.
There was no single day that he will not have his personal morning devotions.
He has blessed us with this habit by giving us (his children) a devotional book
at the beginning of every year even when ministry took me to remote places of
Ghana. He spent long periods of time
praying and it was not surprising to me that he was called home to be with the
Lord whiles praying.
He was a people oriented person and took
much time in attending to the needs of all that he came into contact with. Like
his Lord Jesus Christ, he was a friend to the poor, rich, sick, bereaved,
broken hearted and sinners. It was amazing to us, how he managed to attend a
funeral or wedding almost every Saturday all due to his commitment to the needs
of others.
Elder Amponsah was a cheerful giver, and
supported every evangelistic activity irrespective of the denomination or the
organization. He did not limit his giving to his denomination as most believers
do but I witnessed him sign cheques to various faith based organizations such
as Scripture Union, Bible Society of Ghana, Theovision International just to
mention a few.
He loved our mum to the core and they did
virtually everything together and for us their children we saw their marriage
as a blissful one. There was no single sunday afternoon that you will not see
him sharing a bowl of fufu and soup with our mother after attending church
service together.
He was a man who protected his integrity
in all his engagements. He believed one’s lifestyle affects the gospel message.
He will go at length to ensure he lived a life that is in tangent with what he
professed. Growing up as a young man, I remember vividly his advice to me, not
to live a double standard life and he made sure he did not fail in that test.
He made people aware of his misgivings when he had issues with them
irrespective of the persons position or status in society and this made people
tag him as being too honest or as said in our local parlance ‘plain plain’.
Dada enjoyed his football, music, politics
and he loved participating in national celebrative activities. He was indeed a
patriot. I remember him attending events such as Ghana’s Independence Day
celebrations, Ghana’s Golden jubilee anniversary and the enstoolment of the
Asante King, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II among others.
I bless the Lord for his life.

DeleteElder George Kwasi Amponsah was one of the greatest men of God I have worked with. I remember how he quietly listens to opinion from everybody before given his wise response. There wasn’t a single day did I see him angry before. His smiles, good team work, love, kindness taught me a lot in the Kingdom business. I remember when I rendered my suggestion on the ongoing project at the AEWC to him personally one Sunday. He kept quiet like the humbled sheep and listened to my opinion before explaining things to my understanding. I also remember when he facilitated the last Lay Leadership Training before his demise, oh what a great and a wonderful man he was. He has returned from Togo with some Ministers for a national assignment there, but he refused to rest that day as advised and drove to the School to deliver his lectures. Elder Amponsah‘S devotion to God’s work was fantastic and I can boldly say he was a true man of God. Hmmm only God knows best for his children. May his gentle soul rest in peace. Elder George Kwasi Amponsah will forever be at heart.
