God Is A Good God

Main Text: “You are Good, and do only good; teach me Your decrees”. –Psalm 119:68 (NLT)

Praise God!

I speak on this special day of my birthday on the subject “God is a Good God”. I shall draw some inspiration from the goodness of the Lord from the creation story and how Good He was toward His people, the Israelites, throughout the exodus and when they got to the Promised Land, and finally the goodness of God under this new covenant established by the Lord Jesus Christ.

I shall also relate the goodness of God to my own life.

I have realized that many of them who don’t believe in the existence of God primarily are unable to fathom the goodness of God. Recently I met Vanessa, an American National who doesn’t believe in the existence of God. After much interaction, I understood that her primary worry was her inability to accept a God we claim is good.

She questioned; “How can a good God superintend over wickedness of men? Why is it that children and women are afflicted and oppressed by other people? Why don’t we have peace if indeed there is a good God who you claim created us?”

Most atheists ask similar if not same questions. But the worries of men do not change a dime of the goodness of God. If you live in a fallen world under the watch of a fallen angel, you don’t expect anything different from what we see in our days; do you?

God is always good!

The Encarta English Dictionary defines ‘good’ as “Having or showing a kind and generous disposition”. In other words, we can say God is a kind God and a generous God!
God, out of His goodness made the universe- man inclusive. Out of His goodness, He placed man in charge of His creation (Genesis 1:26-30).

Man disobeyed and sinned against God. Since his sinful nature would not allow him to live with the righteous God, he together with his wife had to vacate the presence of God.

But the good God still cared for them. When they were naked because of their disobedience, the good God didn’t live them to their fate; He made garments of skin for them and clothed them. God covered their nakedness and shamefulness.

The good God since the fall of man has been covering our ‘nakedness’ and ‘disgracefulness’ which result from our disobedience. When we followed after the pleasures of this world, when we sinned and did that which pleased the flesh, when we chose the counsel of the ‘devil’ over that of God, we became ‘naked’.

We deserved to be disdained but the goodness of God is higher than our iniquity. But for the goodness of God, we would have remained the contempt of society. We have our ‘nakedness’ covered by the goodness of God.

You remember that wrong decision you took and where that decision landed you; but for the goodness of God.

The good God promised Abraham a land which flows with milk and honey which He shall give to his descendants who later were named Israelites. These people were God’s chosen people.Because of the goodness of God, He ‘descended’ to rescue them from oppressor’s rule (Exodus 3:7-10). With a mighty hand, the Lord rescued His people, from the house of bondage (Deuteronomy 7:8)

Now hear me, because of the goodness of God, He shall rescue you from any house of bondage. Anything that intimidates you is taken away by the mighty hand of God in Jesus’ name.
If you are in despair and full of hopelessness, the Lord is your hope. Somebody is building hope right now in Jesus’ name.

Before I completed Senior High School (then Senior Secondary School), I took part in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) which is written within the months November and December (NOV/DEC) and had a single-digit grade by the grace of God.

When I completed school the following year and wrote the July WASSCE, I again –by same grace got single-digit grade and a better one and so I was a sure candidate for university admissions.
But guess what; someway somehow I sorrowfully lost my Auntie who cared for me during my senior high education. Hope was lost. Things were difficult but the goodness of God remains. Time and space will not permit me to narrate the whole story but I never saw myself in the university – at least not within the first three to five years after SHS.

But the goodness of God will not permit me to stay at home for not even a year. That same year I completed the Senior High School, I got admission into the University of Ghana to read Bsc Administration. The good God took care of me. Praise God!

Beloved, our God is good, and because of His goodness, your sour story is changing to a sweet and amazing story.

The people of Israel offended the Lord time and again as they journeyed to the Promised Land, but the Lord is abounding in Goodness.

The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin” – Exodus 34:6-7.

The goodness of God preserved them till they got to the Promised Land. They were kept by the goodness of God even in captivity in Assyria and Babylon. Your circumstance is not above the goodness of God.

The goodness of God will always ensure that you are safe even in ‘captivity’. But more importantly, you will be set free eventually. Your captivity will never remain because of the goodness of the Lord.
Now Jesus comes to save humanity from eternal damnation because of the goodness of Good. He has freely given us all things that pertain to life and godliness because of His goodness.

Beloved, are you distress and forsaken? Go to the good God. I see God doing you good. Before this year ends, you shall have a testimony. We know whom we have believed and are serving.

He did Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob good. He did Sarah, Hannah and Elizabeth good. He did Daniel, Joseph, and Peter good. He did Elijah, Isaiah, and Jeremiah good. And your time is now!

May He do you good this week, may He do you good this month, and may He do you good this year.

Remember always that God is a good God! God is Good all the time!

EVANGELISM THEN AND NOW; "THE MISSING LINK"

Praise God!

Every organization has reason for its establishment or existence – thus their core mandate which is most often enshrined in its mission’s statement. For instance coca –cola has as its mandate to produce coca-cola drinks. That’s their mission and they are committed to accomplishing it ingeniously.

In the same vein, the church –which is the collective body of Christ- has a mandate or a mission. This mission (which others refer to it as The Great Commission) is found in the gospel of Matthew.

Matthew 28:18-20 (RSV)
And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age”.

The mission of the church is to speak or preach the gospel – of salvation. It is not the mission of the church to build nice church edifices, schools, hospitals and the likes. Though they are all good, the primary purpose and mandate of the church is to speak the gospel which only has the potency of transforming peoples’ lives.

As part of the mission is to ‘Go’! The church is not a ‘sitting church’; it is a ‘going church’! The church must not wait for people to come. It must rise up and ‘Go’!

This command by the Lord Jesus is not to a selected few; but to all believers. Every believer is an automatic Evangelistic candidate. And preaching of the Gospel is and must be the heartbeat of every church –thus every assembly of the Lord
.
WHAT IS THE GOSPEL?

1 Cor 15:3-4(RSV)
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures.

The gospel is all about the atoning death, burial and glorious resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, and His power to forgive sins and bring salvation to them that believe thereof (Romans 10:9-10; 1 Peter 3:18).

It is only the gospel that can change drunkard to soberness. The gospel has the potency to liberate the sinner from his/her many sins (John 8:1-11). It is only the gospel that can bring total transformation in one’s life. Since the gospel is the power of God, it has the potency to make things new (1 Cor 1:18; Romans 1:16).

Do you seek newness in your life or the lives of friends and loved ones? Go to the gospel and present the good news which has the power to save and transform lives to them (Acts 16:31).

PARTNERING THE HOLY SPIRIT IN EVANGELISM

Acts 1:8 (RSV)
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth

The Holy Spirit has been given to us believers, among other things, for preaching the gospel. We are enjoined by the Lord to be His witnesses by preaching the good news after we are born again and have received the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit teaches us the Word of God and gives us utterances in preaching (John 14:26; 1 John 2:27; Luke 12:12). He, the Spirit of God convicts sinners of sin, righteousness, and judgement (John 16:8)

Every believer has the Holy Spirit living in them (Ephesians 1:13-14) and are therefore adjured to share the gospel message with others with the help of the Spirit of God living inside of them (1 Cor 3:16; 2 Timothy 4:1-2).

BUT WHAT DO WE SEE NOW???

We have abandoned the basic commandment to preach the gospel to the hurting world and expecting that sinners will rather run to the church. But Jesus Himself came down from Heaven so to seek and save sinners (Luke 19:10).

Today, church leaders will not permit the use of church’s musical instruments outside the church auditorium for evangelistic purposes. Yet the Lord expects us to win souls with them. Also the church has become complacent and is comfortable with the ‘few’ members in the body of Christ.

While the Lord expects that all our activities and programmes are geared toward winning of souls, our activities are rather sending souls away from the Lord. How pathetic it is!

Our crusades, conferences, conventions, seminars, naming and wedding ceremonies, funerals of church members, rallies, homilies, church gatherings, and even dinners or buffets are all to have a primary purpose of winning at least a soul. But most often than not, these programmes are organized just to ‘happy’ ourselves. May the Lord Almighty have mercy on us!

WHO TO BLAME?

Well, the Lord knows best. But current breed of leadership has lost the passion for evangelism. There are many untapped militant youth awaiting for leadership to tap what is within them for the work of evangelism.

There is now misplaced priority in the church. Instead of fasting and praying for souls, we are feasting. And everyone is culpable.

Our church meetings have become materialistic. All our prayer meetings are geared toward securing a good job, a good marriage, visas, etc at the detriment of empowering members to go out and share their faith with others.

THE WAY FORWARD

Let’s get back to the basic massage of preaching the Gospel. Lets preach about the Parousia (The Second of Christ (2 Peter 3:10).

Church Leadership everywhere should make it a primary duty to get the gospel preached. They should use the youth who are ever ready and channel their zeal and strength toward the preaching of the gospel.

Let’s preach the gospel at the least opportune time. We need not to wait for crusades to be organized. No! At anytime anywhere, let’s preach. In the buses, at the market places, lorry stations, highways and everywhere.

Note that there are people who are always ready to sponsor the work of missions. Let’s prepare our hearts, minds and bodies for this heavenly and noble task and the Lord will provide the rest.

CONCLUSION

1 Corinthians 15:58
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labour is not in vain.

May the Lord Almighty build His Church!

JESUS CHRIST, THE NAME WHICH IS ABOVE ALL NAMES

#Hour of Hope#

“JESUS CHRIST, THE NAME WHICH IS ABOVE ALL NAMES”

Memory Verse: Philippians 2:9

Names can have influence on them that bear them. God changed the names of some of the People who walked with Him because of the negative influence of their names. For Instance Jacob was changed to Israel, Abram to Abraham, Sarai to Sarah, among others.

The Name of Jesus is the most powerful Name not only in the history of the living but also the dead. The Name is Powerful – full of power, it is Wonderful – full of wonder, and it is beautiful – can make your life a beauty.

Beloved, we have the Name of Jesus as a weapon given by God to all His children. There is salvation in the Name of Jesus! There is healing and deliverance in the Name of Jesus! At the mention of the Name of Jesus, all powers – on earth, beneath the earth, in the heavens and everywhere - kowtow to the Lord. I have seen many lives transformed and many demonized exorcized in my ministry at the mentioning of the Name of Jesus. What is your prayer request? Use the Name of Jesus with meaning for answer!

PRAYER
Dear Father, I thank You for the powerful Name of Jesus You have given us. I declare I am walking in my freedom in the Jesus’ Name, Amen!!

God bless you!

UPON MOUNT ZION SHALL BE DELIVERANCE

#Hour of Hope#

“UPON MOUNT ZION SHALL BE DELIVERANCE”

Memory Verse: Obadiah 1:17

God is good; He has never desired in the eternal damnation of man, hence the coming of Jesus Christ to redeem man from eternal condemnation.

When the nation of Israel sinned and were taken captives by their enemies, the Lord, their God had no joy in their predicament. God, through the Prophet Obadiah assured them of a coming liberation and deliverance.

Beloved, the candid desire of the Lord is to rescue you from all your plights – though they may have come about as a result of your sins. He wants you repented and delivered from all oppression and captivity. There is deliverance on Mount Zion and thanks be to God, we Christians have already come to Mount Zion (Hebrews 12:18). You are receiving your deliverance and taking your possession in Jesus’ name!

PRAYER
Dear Father, I thank You for delivering me and causing me to be holy and taking my possessions in Jesus’ Name, Amen!!

Scripture Reading: Hebrews 12:18-29

God bless you!

THE RULER OF THIS WORLD IS COMING; HE HAS NO POWER OVER ME

#Hour of Hope#

THE RULER OF THIS WORLD IS COMING; HE HAS NO POWER OVER ME

Memory Verse: John 14:30

In the kingdom of powers, there are levels; thus one power can be more powerful than the other. Lower powers, needless to say, submit to higher ones. And the respect for higher powers is highly practiced in the kingdom of powers.

There is no power – in the heavens, on earth, beneath the earth, or in the waters – which is higher than that of God Almighty and His Son Jesus Christ. There is no one powerful like our Lord Jesus. All other powers whatever form or shape subject to the obedience of Christ.

Beloved, you have a good news! The power of Christ has been given to the church which is the body of Christ through the Holy Spirit. You have a mighty One inside of you and He is greater than he who is in this world -even Satan. If the devil has issue with you, kindly direct him to Christ. Please don’t give him a hearing. Use the authority and power given to you by Christ to overcome him.

PRAYER
Dear Father, I thank You for the power given to me over the devil. I believe the devil has nothing in me because of the finished work of Jesus in Jesus’ Name, Amen!!

Scripture Reading: Mark 5:1-20

God bless you!

LET GOD BE TRUE AND EVERY MAN A LIAR

#Hour of Hope#

“LET GOD BE TRUE AND EVERY MAN A LIAR”

Memory Verse: Romans 3:4

The Lord has never and will never mistaken. He is much aware of whatever promise and assurance He utters. And since the Almighty has the capacity to do all things, you need not to worry about His ability to perform.

Man can be mistaken. They can fail on their promises and sometimes intentionally can deceive you – but the Lord is faithful and true in all things. He spoke through His prophets concerning the events of His people, the Israelites – and Christians – and every Word of the Lord has either come to pass or will come to pass.

Beloved, you serve a truthful God. No Word concerning your life from God has been spoken in vain. What have you heard from His servants and/ or received by a revelation or read from the Bible and have believed? They all shall surely be fulfilled. You just need to trust in the Lord’s faithfulness which will always keep you under His shelter. Don’t let the world to decide for you because it will fail you but God, the righteous One shall perform all His promises toward you.

PRAYER
Dear Father, I thank You that You cannot lie to me. I trust in Your faithfulness for the performance of Your promises in my life in Jesus’ Name, Amen!!

Scripture Reading: 2 Peter 3:1-9

God bless you!

I AM SENDING MY ANGEL AHEAD OF YOU

#Hour of Hope#

“I AM SENDING MY ANGEL AHEAD OF YOU”

Memory Verse: Exodus 23:20

In order to accomplish the will of the Lord, He gives to man that ability and capacity to undertake that very task. For instance Noah was empowered to build the ark and Moses was enabled to lead the Israelites.

The people of Israel were delivered from slavery and bondage by a strong hand of the Lord with signs and wonders. Yet the Land which was promised to them was occupied by people of other nations – and Israel needed to drive them away. But it wasn’t their effort alone; an angel of God was sent ahead to ‘fight’ their battle.

Beloved, as a Christian, you are not alone in this life. We have numerous angels of the Lord surrounding us. Some are ahead of us in this life to take us to our promised land. You therefore need not to worry about tomorrow because the Lord through His angels has taken care of that. Ultimately God has given us His Spirit to also bring us to Himself in His Kingdom. Please don’t afraid, for we have angels and the Holy Spirit with us. You just have to yield to them.

PRAYER
Dear Father, I thank You for Your angels and Your Spirit who are with me and ahead of me to bring about my victory and glory and ultimately to heaven. Please help me to yield to them always in Jesus’ Name, Amen!

Scripture Reading: Exodus 23:20-33

God bless you!
